Although we are all aware that modern language testing is tied in to what a student can do in the target language and that just by improving their performance is preparation enough, both pupils and teachers like to have a firm grasp of what is expected. Also in this age of personal learning platforms and smart portfolios, there are ways that we can use technology to help track their students’ progress and show any areas that need improvement. This session will highlight some tools and strategies we can use to help students feel properly prepared, some techniques to help with areas they feel less confident about and some activities that will improve any weaknesses.

Using technology for learning and teaching foreign languages is now as obvious as using books, but it is by no means easy to decide what to pick to save time and make learning easier and more motivating for the students. If managing homework is a challenge, come to see how technology can share the burden with you. ⚫ 13.00 - 14.00 Bringing the Course Book to Life
We all know that good teachers don’t teach the course book they teach the students using the course book - and there is a difference. Students bring in their own learner styles and motivation into the classroom and quite often there isn’t a smooth fit between what’s on page 24 and who’s in room 3. Also, increasingly, as attention spans are getting lower learners need and expect something to engage them and this move towards ‘edutainment’ means that more emphasis needs to be placed on experiential learning (i.e. learning by doing) and making the whole classroom experience more memorable. Also, one of the main motivating factors for many school students is to pass an international examination. With these points in mind it is obvious that in order to get the best out of a course book we need to be selective and to be able to adapt and adjust the text to make it more relevant to our students’ needs. This session will look at some simple tasks and activities that will allow us to do exactly that.

В своём выступлении Татьяна Малышева, старший преподаватель кафедры Лингвистики и перевода Института Международных Связей Екатеринбурга, представит пути развития стратегий выполнения экзаменационных заданий в письменной части ГИА. Особое внимание будет уделено типичным ошибкам.
Phil Warwick has been involved in ELT since 1988. During this time he has worked in many different roles and countries, mainly in a teacher training or academic management position. For the last ten years he has worked as a freelance teacher trainer for Pearson and has delivered training to teachers in many different countries including Argentina, Bulgaria, Russia, Georgia, Panama, Poland, the UAE and Kazakhstan. He has also taught on CELTA, Business English courses and EU funded teacher training sessions. Since 2007 he has also been Academic Coordinator for Embassy Summer, developing and delivering intensive language courses for teenagers and young learners across a multitude of centres in the UK.
Andrzej Boguta has been involved in teaching English as a foreign language for the last 21 years, firstly as a teacher, then after 7 years of teaching students of all age groups and levels moved to a publisher – Pearson Longman. Working closely with teachers, organizing seminars and trainings. Especially interested in implementing new technology in teaching English.
